Kids need 60 minutes of physical activity each day. And especially during the summer, kids should be active outside. Just 15 minutes of sunshine on a child’s face and hands can give him thousands of units of immune system boosting vitamin D! Kids who play outside do better in school, are less likely to suffer from depression, and are more physically fit. Outdoor play leads to healthier, happier, smarter kids.
Join Dr. Anderson-Willis on the 4th Saturday of each month for health tips and ideas for how to get your kids interested in playing outside. You’ll get information on important health issues, then enjoy a walk at a comfortable pace where you can ask Dr. Anderson-Willis your questions about your child’s health. You’ll meet other families, and enjoy some family play time at the Ash Grove Picnic Area playground. Motivational speaker Dr. Anderson-Willis, MD, FAAP, is on the faculty at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a Clinical Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and an expert on children’s health and walking, outdoor play, and obesity prevention.
Walk with a Doc is a walking program for everyone interested in taking steps toward a healthier lifestyle. The emphasis is on having fun while improving your fitness level, and there are no special rules – just put on a pair of comfortable shoes and walk at your own pace.
Walk With A Doc was started in Columbus, Ohio in April of 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, and has now expanded throughout the country. If this walk doesn’t fit your schedule, check our website at walkwithadoc.org/our-locations to find a day and time that works for you. Remember: Adults need 150 minutes of exercise each week, and children need a whopping 420 – an hour a day! What better way to start your weekend than on your feet, making strides to improve your health and lengthen your life?
Join Dr. Anderson-Willis and meet other likeminded people at the monthly Walk With A Doc at the Blacklick Metropark in Reynoldsburg.
