Who We Are – Our Dietitians – Abby

Abby

Why did you decide to pursue a career in nutrition?

I played lacrosse in high school and college and was amazed by how what you ate could affect how you played and felt. I love helping others discover the amazing tastes and benefits of a colorful plate. Learn more about my background on my LinkedIn page.

What is your overall philosophy toward nutrition and a healthy lifestyle?

“Healthy” is individual to each person, their health conditions, environment, access, activity, culture, and background. There is no perfect, just better than before.

What are your top 3 bits of nutrition advice?

1) One day, meal, or food, will not make or break a healthy diet.

2) Eat the Rainbow, but not in Skittles. The colors of fruits and vegetables show us what nutrients they contain and the more colors the better.

3) Try not to “yuck someone else’s yum”. Be willing to try new things as tastes change all throughout life.

What is your favorite recipe or cookbook?

I’m not good at following a recipe. I always end up doctoring things up based on what is in my pantry, adding more vegetables, swapping in whole grains, lean proteins and boosting the colors. I use Pinterest for saving different recipes and meal ideas. I have a page that my patients and clients can access to see all that I find: www.pinterest.com/AbbyFormanRD

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

The relationship we have with food is just as important as the foods we eat. Food is fuel for the body, mind, and spirit.
