Some people often consider walking as not a “real exercise”.  Walking can get your heart pumping, muscles working, and fat burning–all of the things that real exercise should achieve.  Furthermore, walking is low impact; easier on the joints than running. It is also safe for people with orthopedic ailments, heart conditions, and those that have unhealthy weight.  In addition, research has shown that you could gain two hours of your life for each hour of regular exercise!

Walk with the Doc is a walking program for everyone interested in achieving a healthier lifestyle.  What better way to start your weekend than on your feet making strides to help your heart and improve your overall health to live longer!  Also, while walking at your own pace, you will get the chance to ask questions of your local doctor.

Walk with the Doc program was started in Columbus Ohio in 2005 and has expanded throughout the country and is now available in the Alief community.  You don’t need any special gear and there are no special rules. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes and you can walk alone, with friends, a partner or family, or with the group.  It’s all up to you.
