Walking is often overlooked as a form of physical activity for pursuits with higher intensity. A brisk walk is however simple, free, easily accessible and one of the easiest ways to get active. It also has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity. Walking is low impact and easier on the joints than running. It is well known not only to be beneficial for those with orthopaedic problems (strengthening muscles and bones and improving balance) but has also been proven to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke as well as associated risk factors such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.   Research has shown that you could gain two hours of life for each hour of regular exercise.

Walk with a Doc is a walking program for everyone interested in taking steps towards a healthier lifestyle. You’ll take a few minutes to learn about a lifestyle-related health topic, then spend the rest of the hour enjoying a healthy walk and a fun conversation. It’s a great way to get out, get active, and enjoy all the benefits that come from walking. Walk at your own pace and distance (there is no obligation to walk for the full hour).

This program was started in 2005 in Columbus, United States by Cardiologist Dr. David Sabgir and has now expanded throughout the world. You don’t need any special gear and there are no special rules. Our walking groups are a safe, fun, and FREE place to get some steps, learn about health, and meet new friends.
