We are thrilled to be part of the national program of Walk with a Doc in Long Island. Elana is board certified in OBGYN and in Lifestyle Medicine and has been practicing OBGYN and working at NYU LI Winthrop Hospital for over 25 years and teaching at the NYU Long Island School of Medicine. Ronnie is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Lifestyle Medicine, and has been in practice in Plainview for over 25 years. We have raised our family here in Nassau County, and we are grateful to be part of the community.
According to the American Heart Association, walking has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity. Walking is low impact and easier on the joints than running. It is safe – with a doctor’s okay – for people with orthopedic ailments, heart conditions, and those who are more than 20% overweight.
Research has shown that there is a significant reduction in mortality with as little as 1 hour of moderate physical activity per week!!
Walk with a Doc is a walking program for everyone interested in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle. You’ll take a few minutes to learn about a current health topic from a healthcare professional, then spend the rest of the hour enjoying a healthy walk and fun conversation. It’s a great way to get out, get active, and enjoy all the benefits that come from walking. Walk your own pace and distance.
We are hoping that you join us whenever you can, once a month on a Sunday morning as part of a regular exercise routine. Whether you are a beginner, already exercising in the gym or taking classes, we welcome you. Join us as an individual or with your family or friends
This program was started in Columbus, OH in April of 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir and has now expanded throughout the world. You don’t need any special gear and there are no special rules. Our walking groups are a safe, fun, and FREE place to get some steps, learn about health, and meet new friends.
