We invite you to come experience the power of walking, community, and nature in this free walking program! Did you know? Walking just 30 minutes a day withholds the power to:
- Boost the immune system
- Increase life expectancy up to 3 years
- Reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety
- Improve sleep quality
- Reduce the risk of stroke 20-30%
- Improve cognitive function and reduce risk of cognitive decline in older adults by 40-50%
- Improve bone health
- Reduce risk of cardiovascular disease by 30-40%
- Reduce blood pressure
Each walk starts with a brief talk about a health topic before spending the remaining hour enjoying community, nature, and physical activity with other walk members. Walkers are encouraged to bring family members and friends of all ages and abilities! Feel free to walk as long or as short as you would like.
This chapter is supported by the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program under the Health Resources & Services Organization. We welcome walkers who receive services from Ryan White-funded agencies such as the AOC, AHF, CAN Community Health, and JPS Healing Wings Clinic. We also welcome any family, friends, or community members who do not receive services from Ryan-White-funded agencies. We aim to create a welcoming and respectful environment for all walkers. Therefore, we kindly ask that you do not ask walkers about their HIV-status or involvement in these agencies. You are welcome to share your individual involvement if desired, however, please be considerate of individuals who do not want to disclose their status.

WALK
Walking is one of the best things you can do for both your physical and mental health! At each event, you’ll have the opportunity to walk at a pace and distance that you’re comfortable with.
LEARN ABOUT HEALTH
Each event starts with a brief discussion on a health topic from a local physician, healthcare provider, or medical student. You’ll also have the opportunity to chat with the leader and ask questions during the walk.
MEET NEW PEOPLE
Research shows that socializing with others is extremely important for our health. Bring a friend or meet a new friend at the walks.
