One Beautiful Cake

Posted on 01/24/202002/07/2020 by Walk with a Doc
Good morning! This week we saw the retirement of one of our heroes, Dr. Joan Dorn PhD, Medical Professor at CUNY. She is a huge advocate for WWAD and has been since she headed up the Physical Activity and Health Branch of the CDC (her previous post). 5 years ago, Dr. Dorn started Walk with a Future Doc (WWAFD) and a beautiful chaos ensued. She has since graduated hundreds of passional medical leaders, spoken for us many times, helped us organize a WHO event at Central Park, co-authored our first journal article, and has been instrumental as 35 additional med schools have joined the (WWAFD) party. Her students love her and I can see why. She pours her heart into these incredible kids and it has been such a reward to witness. This is from one of her students:
…“On the day of my interview you had me walk up the stairs to the third floor. I was out of breath. Today, I can walk up to the fourth floor without gasping for air. I believe that it convinced me to take fitness into my life a little bit more. I’m sorry I never got to make that walk with a future doc video, but I will try to put in as much effort as I can to make sure my patients will take fitness into their lives. Even if it leads to Walk with a Doc during my practice.:…….”
Thank G-d, she wants to keep on keepin’ on with the Walk as she enters her next phase. We are so LUCKY to have her.Below is Joan. A healthy, blueberry walker in the snow. I love it. ds
