Foundation to Advance Vascular Cures Partners with Walk with a Doc to Promote Vascular Health Through a Community Walking Program

The Foundation to Advance Vascular Cures is proud to announce its partnership with Walk with a Doc (WWAD), an international nonprofit that improves community health through movement and conversation. Together, the organizations will bring free physician-led community walks to more communities, helping people improve vascular health through education, movement, and conversation.

The partnership combines the Foundation’s mission to advance vascular health through education, research, and community engagement with Walk with a Doc’s proven model of connecting healthcare professionals and community members. Together, they will expand Walk with a Doc by engaging people living with vascular disease, in particular peripheral artery disease (PAD), with vascular surgeons and medical teams, while supporting new chapters worldwide. Participants will also gain access to vascular disease education and resources, including a growing worldwide PAD Facebook group on walking, exercise, and wellness information and support.

Community walks give participants the opportunity to walk alongside physicians and other healthcare professionals in a relaxed setting where they can ask questions and discuss their health.

Walking is one of the most effective forms of exercise for improving cardiovascular and vascular health. According to the American Heart Association, walking for as little as 30 minutes each day can:

  • Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels
  • Help maintain a healthy body weight
  • Reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other chronic conditions
  • Improve circulation and overall vascular health

Walk with a Doc was founded by cardiologist Dr. David Sabgir in 2005 with the mission of inspiring communities through movement and conversation. Today, hundreds of walking groups meet worldwide, providing participants with opportunities to exercise, ask health questions, and connect with local healthcare professionals.

Together, the Foundation and Walk with a Doc will raise awareness of PAD and other vascular conditions while encouraging healthy habits that help prevent disease and improve quality of life.
