Good morning and Happy New Year!
Seriously, Happy New Year.
I hope we get to spend a lot of it together – through this channel or even better, hanging out in person.
We read your responses, we know many of you have your finger on the pulse. We know you are aware of the ‘rule of thumb’ in the arena of activity.
For those yet unaware, that rule of thumb is that we live up to three extra hours (180 minutes!!) for every hour we are active (I believe in due time studies will prove that it is significantly more and some argue it’s seven hours(!)).
But for now, let’s be conservative and call it 3.

Do you know the amount of walking (or other moderate activity)/week our scientist friends have figured out is best?
That’s right – 150 minutes/week or more of moderate-intensity physical activity.
So, for those of you who are RAISING YOUR HAND and saying ‘Hey, YEAH ME!’?
I want to live a life full of energy, fun, reading, parties, and just living the life that I deserve and earned.
Well, then you may have averaged walking 150 minutes/week last year.
That’s an extra 7.5 hours/week and 390 hours/year.
That’s over 16 days.
16 days of upbeat, disease-free bliss, reading stupid newsletters!
Those of you who say, ‘Hey 150? Hold my beverage’ and raise the bar to 300 minutes/week?
We’ll be wishing you a Happy New Year 2025 on the evening of February 2nd next year! You get 32.5 more days of life than the rest of us.
Punxsutawney Phil will have already hung his top hat on the coat rack and be all cuddled up in the fetal position in his hole, gently shaking his cute little fuzzy head about how cold it was up there, and you’re STILL celebrating your free month.
You get 32.5 days.
Man, this stuff adds UP!
Big time.
And that’s the kicker, right?
Here we think of ‘bonus checks’ as pie in the sky, mostly out of our control.
When in reality, if we choose to hang out with a friend (while walking), listen to an amazing book (while walking), or just plain decompress (while walking) – we are the ones in 100% control. Can’t touch this.
You couldn’t care less about what the upper management chooses to do, because you, just added a month onto your life. All by yourself.
No amount of money touches that.
Great to be with you this morning.
Hey, let’s turn the collective healthcare world on its ear this year.
You take the mic, Margaret, I’ve already said enough.
