Walk with a Doc Newsletter
Good morning! In our 2019 survey (thank you for 1017 responses!) 4 of you have shared that you find the newsletters “sophomoric” “asinine”, “don’t make any sense”, and “make you very angry”. I’m not 100% sure why you continue to read, but this week, now is the time you want to hop off. Right now.
In September and October’s highly contested board meetings (I mean these things are HOT!), we charged ourselves with finding a unifying theme that would be meaningful and carry a stripe that would run through all of our 525 chapters. I’d be lying if I said punches weren’t thrown, but in the end, IN THE END, we found a way to meet in the middle.
November 2nd, 2019, in celebration of our 525th chapter and the agricultural heritage of those who have come before us, we present:
Drive Your Tractor to Walk with a Doc Day.
We will dally in games of cornhole, hot saw, the standing chop, the springboard chop, and, of course,
logrolling. If you think you get a million steps logrolling, you’re right (extra waiver will need to be signed).
Crazy fun for the entire family.
We understand that while driving your tractor is extremely safe (most brands tap out around 15 miles per hour), a couple of board members (the ones I punched right in the stomach) have expressed concerns with parking in our denser metropolitan areas (Manhattan, East LA, etc.). In retrospect, they may have a point. Please see the picture below.
This is one of the challenges with having 525 chapters, but deep down, we’re all the same.
Overall, we expect the day to be quite simple. Just a few points to drill down before the 2nd:
1)The 2017 survey showed that almost all of you own tractors, however, it is possible that a few of you do not (if you’re in Columbus and need to borrow one, give me a ring). We want you to be prepared for Saturday so here are
some tips to consider. Please take note that #3 shares you should expect to spend $20,000. You just need to decide what your health is worth to you. (How is buying a tractor going to improve my health?)
2) Back to parking. You may want to leave a little early. Typical parking garage clearance is 7’0” (8’2” for van accessible parking). Some of your tractors are likely 10 feet or more. It makes sense if you think about it. When was the last time you saw a farm tractor in a parking garage? Yeah, me neither.
3) Most important. All tractors come in different sizes and many will be parked close to each other and comparison will be easy. Naturally, most tractors are isolated off in soybean/corn fields where they would not be subject to judgment. We strongly encourage you not to judge, measure, scrutinize, etc. others’ tractors while we are at WWAD. We pride ourselves on being a safe space. That includes tractors.
4) Many of you will want the png of our new DYTTWWAD logo (below) for your individualized promotions. Feel free to incorporate this into all hospital/park communications of your event free of charge.
5) Finally, this is a mandate*. You will not be permitted to hold a WWAD that does not involve tractors on November 2nd, 2019. Logrolling must also be included. It goes without saying that we expect all our physicians to drive their tractor
. You know, walk the talk.
*There will be five (5) generalized exemptions granted for those refusing to participate in DYTTWWAD like the rest of us. Please submit those requests to
contact@walkwithadoc.org with valid reason(s) why you are choosing not to participate in Drive Your Tractor to Walk with a Doc Day. The more reasons you provide the more likely you are to be approved.
