How to Eat Fried Worms

Walk with a Doc Newsletter
Good morning! Hope that you are enjoying gorgeous weather in your neck of the woods. Today, we reach deep into our mailbag for 2 special letters. We received some just fantastic communication from our heroes Dr. Eric (Smiltneek) in Oshkosh, WI and Dr. Arlene Joy Vallejo in the Philippines.
Dr. Eric leads Walk and Bike to School with Dr. Eric…
“Hi Walk Friends,
We are back.
As Pete the Cat says “The sun is shining. The sky is bright. The birds are singing. We’re feeling alright!”
The crew is back after the long winter – a bunch of old friends and a few first timers.
Today’s question is why did you come today?
The most popular answer is it is good to exercise and exercise is more fun with friends.
The kid who was not a fan of being in the picture is actually a fan of walking with us, however.
He said walking with us is better than walking on a treadmill, because when he tried to walk on a treadmill he fell off and scraped his leg. He is said his leg hurt for a long time. So maybe our new tag line could be “walk with a doc, it is less painful than walking on a treadmill”
I would also like to email introduce you to my new friend Jessica – who is helping me with business development at Aurora. She has been wonderful and excited about my craziness so far and may be in touch about expanding to some other Oshkosh area schools (or sites) in the future.
Happy to be back,
Eric
PS – Wednesday’s health topic is worms (student requested) – and the word on the playground is that Charlie (thumbs up kid) is going to eat a worm during the walk. So stay tuned for that. (Our new marketing strategy – daring kids to do gross things)”
Wednesday’s follow-up…”After the much anticipated health talk on worms, Charlie did indeed eat the gummy worms purchased from the grocery store. He also shared with his friends. I think he was relieved that we did not have real worms to feed him.
We did have a talk about healthy choices and that eating real worms is probably healthier than eating gummy worms. Charlie’s insight into this is sometimes we choose the unhealthy choice, because the healthy option is kind of gross.”
Dr. Arleen Joy Vallejo
Let’s reach back into the mailbag, one more time. This correspondence comes from Dr. Vallejo inAntique (pronounced as An-ti-ke) Medicine Center, Philippines. This is part of her response after we shared she had 355 guests last week.
“The people from our province are very eager to have frequent walks.
The lectures are very effective.
WWAD has helped me a lot in my practice. My referrals for weight loss, nutrition prescription and exercise prescription are overwhelming. Thank you for this program. We are helping a lot of people as well as it is helping me.
God bless WWAD.”
It’s me, again. Thank you to Dr. Eric, Dr. Arleen and every single one of you for driving this movement forward. We don’t know exactly where we are going, but we do know it’s someplace very fun. david
