Walk with a Doc Est. 1967

Posted on 08/15/202508/15/2025 by Walk with a Doc HQ

Good morning! We hope your week has been treating you well.

Oh my goodness, it’s Friday!

In addition, we have some exciting news!!!

We’re changing the date when Walk with a Doc was started.

Our team has been reading up on some notable events of the 20th century (Polio Vaccine, Discovery of Penicillin, Louisiana Purchase, War of 1812, etc).

They all have one thing in common.

They occurred on cool dates – 1969, 1955, 1971…

Back in 1967, we had the Rat Pack, MLK, Mickey Mantle, Cronkite, Gandhi, Lincoln, Edison, Oprah, Van Gogh – people at the ABSOLUTE top of their field.

They had cool cars, like the ’67 Mustang, and even cooler hangouts, like The Stardust.

Our first WWAD was in 2005.

2005? Yuck! We might as well write it in pink cotton candy swirls.

2005 is Hannah Montana, yellow sweetener packets, and Hurricane Katrina.

Not me. Not our walk!

We’re announcing today, and exclusively to our newsletter subscribers, that we are officially changing our established date to 1967.

There are a few reasons why we are moving on this now:

1)  While we are at 20 years, in reality, our hockey stick growth is just getting started; I believe it’s a good idea to change now before people start asking a lot of questions.

2)   Instant credibility. Better to have been around 58 years than 20. This shows incredible staying power.

3)   This puts us past our 50th anniversary. There will be no unneeded stress about what we’re going to do to celebrate this landmark event.

4)   Est. 1967 sounds cool. The moon landing and Woodstock are coming up. It’s the VW Bus, it’s Sidney Poitier.

Walk leaders, just a heads up that I suspect you may get a couple of questions over the next month.

Here’s the pivot.

“Huh? You guys have been around since 1967, Dr. Smith? (hands on hips with a head tilt) How come I’ve never heard of you?”

Pivot.

“WOW, those are nice socks, Bob! That reminds me, how are your kids?”

People LOVE talking about their kids.

Look, it’s not easy for us at HQ either. This retrograde migration of dates is not as simple as it sounds.

That’s because, when we do things at WWAD World HQ, we’re all in.

We’ve spent the last 6 days rubbing teabags over our bylaws, our code of regulations, and all 623 contracts. In addition, we’ve been lightly burning their edges, then rewriting them with my genuine quill feather ink pen.

We’ve had to throw out our computers – think about it – Jobs/Gates got their start in the 70’s. We were established in ’67. Chronologically, it doesn’t add up.

As a team, we’ve had our interns manually rewinding our WWAD HQ clocks over and over and over again.

365 (days) x 2 (12 hr cycles) x 58 (years), that’s a ton of winding!

The argument from the interns has been that no one will notice; the clocks don’t have dates.

Again, that’s not the way we operate at WWAD. We’re all in.

We haven’t told too many people about this, so please let me know if you have any concerns. Otherwise, the first walk was on April 15th, 1967. I checked, and it was a Saturday (high of 76 and low of 56)

Back to the italics up top, if we could also try and keep this just between you and me. There’s a chance it may ruffle a couple of feathers if this gets out.

Disclaimer: Yes, we claim 1967 because it’s way cooler than 2005, but don’t be fooled: Walk with a Doc officially began in 2005. Any mentions of quills, teabags, clock-winding, or retrograde historical magic are purely fictional. That’s right – this entire newsletter is made up.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.
